Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery is a surgical operation performed to improve the appearance of sagging, bagging and wrinkles in the upper and lower eyelid areas.

Blepharoplasty can be preferred to correct aesthetic problems such as sagging and wrinkling of the eyelids that occur due to genetic reasons or as a result of aging. After the operation, the eye area has a more vivid, bright and youthful appearance.

How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?

The patient, who does not have any discomfort that prevents the operation, has an interview with the doctor before the operation. In this interview, measurements and drawings are made to guide the operation. Then the patient can be taken to the operating theatre. The operation time of the eyelid surgery performed under general anaesthesia may vary depending on whether the lower and/or upper eyelid is intervened. In the operation, which takes an average of 1 hour, excess fat and skin tissue in the eye area are removed under the guidance of incision areas determined and marked before the operation.

At the end of the operation, the incisions are closed with self-melting sutures and protective tapes are placed in the area. After blepharoplasty, the patient stays in the hospital for 1 night. In this process, the necessary controls are carried out and the patient can return to his/her hotel/home the next day. Edema and swelling may be seen in the area after the operation. This situation is quite normal. In the first few days after eyelid surgery, it is recommended that the patient should not tire himself, avoid heavy activities and protect the operation area from heavy impacts.

FIRST 3 DAYS:

For the first three days after blepharoplasty, it is quite natural to have a slight swelling in the area. In this process, the patient can apply cold compresses to the area according to the doctor's recommendation. During the healing period, it is very important for the patient to sleep on his/her back and protect the area from impacts. Activities that will tire the eye (watching TV, reading books, using the phone, etc.) should be avoided as much as possible. The tapes placed to protect the area at the end of the operation are removed by the doctor on the control day.

DAY 5 - 10.

After the blepharoplasty operation, the patient's final controls are carried out and the patient can return home on the fifth day if he/she lives abroad or outside the city. Since the stitches used in the operation are self-melting stitches, they do not need to be removed by the doctor and dissolve spontaneously within 5-21 days. The recovery period of eyelid surgery is approximately 10 days. During this process, oedema will decrease day by day.

1ST MONTH

In the first month after blepharoplasty, swelling and oedema have subsided. The patient submits his/her images to the health representative at regular intervals and is checked by his/her doctor. In this way, the healing process is followed. The doctor may recommend medication or cream. It is very important to follow these recommendations. The patient should protect the operation area from sunlight as much as possible. In this process, the use of sunglasses may be preferred with the approval of the doctor.

6TH MONTH - 1ST YEAR

As stated after most operations, although the healing process varies from person to person, it can be called an average of one year. In this process, the scars in the area lose their prominence and the oedema / swelling completely disappears. Monthly controls are provided after the patient submits the photographs to the health counsellor. As a result of the examination of the photographs by the doctor, cream and medication recommendations can be made to the patient. It is very important for the patient to follow the doctor's recommendations during the healing process in order to have the best result.
